Don’t judge a book by its cover! You can always sculpt it if you don’t like it. Taiwanese artist Long Bin Chen has made a name for himself by creating some of the most incredible examples of carved books. Long starts by finding discarded paper books that fit with the theme, color and message of the piece, then he would assemble them and start molding and carving them. His most used books are discarded phone books, library books, news paper, and computer paper. Long’s sculptures speak out on waste and the ‘throw away culture’ of items and products and are designed to make people think that perhaps these items can be upcycled and re-used for something other than the stated primary use.
