Aaron Groen’s photographs are easy to get lost into. In his collection, A Series of Dark Places the South Dakota-based artist juxtaposes the beauty of the universe against familiar natural and man-made landscapes to make the beauty of deep space seem so close. Using long exposures, he captures landscapes filled with dreamy atmospheres, stunning color palettes and galaxies far, far away.

As the stars shine brightly overhead and illuminate parts of our planet, Groen transports us to a place where boundaries of the known and unknown are blurred and seem to overlap. He also gives the photos clever names like Redneck Planitarium, Chaos, Milky Way & Decay, and Crossroads to Creation. Through these photos it feels easy to drift into the unknown wonder and beauty of space and the nights sky.
